Dans sa pratique photographique, Hubert Gaudreau explore les concepts de perception et de réel à travers l’image et le récit. Toujours par le biais de la séquence, il emprunte les codes de la narration pour présenter des univers génériques issus de son environnement. Il explore ainsi l’idée que l’image sert à nous raconter quelque chose sur la façon dont nous la comprenons bien plus que sur ce qu’elle nous montre.

Hubert entretient une étroite proximité avec l’univers littéraire et son travail en photographie en est fondamentalement inspiré. Il accorde donc une grande importance aux capacités langagières des images et s’intéresse aussi au livre comme méthode de diffusion de son travail, autant pour la physicalité de cet objet que pour sa capacité à transmettre des connaissances.

In his photographic practice, Hubert Gaudreau explores the concepts of perception and reality through image and story. Still through the sequence, he borrows the codes of narration to present generic universes from his environment. He thus explores the idea that the image serves to tell us something about how we understand it much more than what it shows us. Hubert maintains close proximity to the literary world and his work in photography is fundamentally inspired by it. He therefore attaches great importance to the language skills of images and is also interested in books as a method of disseminating his work, as much for the physicality of this object as for its ability to transmit knowledge.

Hubert Gaudreau est intéressé par les diverses formes d’expressions photographiques liées à l’art actuel et aux pratiques documentaires. Ayant eu un parcours universitaire en littérature, en anthropologie et en arts plastiques à l’Université Laval, il a travaillé comme assistant auprès de plusieurs photographes et également comme lecteur et photographe pour la maison d’édition Hamac. En 2018 il a été récipiendaire d’une bourse Première Ovation pour son projet Les Autres Imaginaires qu’il a présenté à Québec à la galerie Criterium à l’été 2019 ainsi qu’au Musée du Bas-Saint-Laurent à l’hiver 2021. Le projet Les Autres Imaginaires prend également la forme d’un livre photo qui a lancée à l’été 2021. Hubert a également eu la chance de présenter son travail dans des expositions collectives, notamment à Québec, à Montréal, à Matane et à Marseille.

Hubert Gaudreau is interested in the various forms of photographic expression linked to current art and documentary practices. Having had a academic background in literature, anthropology and visual arts at Laval University, he worked as an assistant to several photographers and also as a reader and photographer for the publishing house Hamac. In 2018, he was the recipient of a Première Ovation grant for his project Les Autres Imaginaires which he presented in Quebec at the Criterium gallery in the summer of 2019 and at the Musée du Bas-Saint-Laurent in the winter of 2021. Les Autres Imaginaires is also a photobook that was launched in the summer of 2021. Hubert has also had the chance to show his work in group exhibitions in Quebec City, Montreal, Matane and Marseille.
